Business Trip

I really wish I had an actual second home here in Cabo. It's the middle of winter and I can go out and get waves in trunks, drive to desolate beaches and eat great food. Oh yeah... the sun is out every day.

All of that was all fun and games but this IS a 'business' trip. During these past few days I got to hang with Chato, la Chulies, Mauricio, Boxxer and a few other local riders. We hit up the west side both free days and just enjoyed every single minute in paradise. The bodyboard community here will show fellow riders the good life.

Cabo Freak Fest was on top of the list on this 'business' trip. I did a few other things to make the trip worthy. I brought down a bunch of No.6 boards for the boys plus I met up with Lee from SUP Cabo to organize SUP surf trips to down here. Can't wait to get that going as well.

Stay tuned on final details on Cabo Freak Fest plus the SUP trips.

Gracias to all those that make me want to consider getting a second home in Cabo.

La Chulies getting the shot. Gracias.

Chest Pains

Don't worry, I'm sure it's not those chest pains that I'm feeling. I'm about 99% sure it's from the ass whooping that I got from "Trota." His real name is Juan Espino and he can break your body in two. In fact, I think he did break my body in half... internally. I'm still feeling the pain from my training session with him back when I was on the Canary Islands in December.

Before you start talking smack about me getting my ass handed to me, let me tell you about this guy. First, he's one of the coolest guys I met on the trip. Second, he's a bodyboarder. I would not want to see him angry in the water no matter what board he's on. And third, he's a fighter. The real deal. I want to say he's about 300 and something pounds and he is one of the Canary Island's best fighters in the ring. He also is the only light skinned wrestler allowed to fight in the Senegal's very strict fighting arenas. That's where he makes most of his money. The top fighters in these fights will walk with a hefty chunk of the usual $500k cash purse.

Now, back to my chest pains. For the IBA World Tour on-location shoot in the Canary Islands, the production guys thought it'd be a great idea for me to wrestle this monster of human. I think about it now and still ask, "WTF was I thinking!?" I was no match for this guy. He showed me a few tricks but he was tossing me around like a freakin' rag doll! At one point, not only did he toss me five feet in the air but he then, i'm sure not intentionally, fell on top of me. Absolutely crushing my sternum to the mat. I felt it ache instantly. But then the pain subsided. Watch the video below... that's what it felt like but I was higher and he didn't fall on my that hard. If it wasn't for the pre-training session Yeray Martinez (another world class bodyboarder and fighter) gave me at the Gil CatarinoTraining Camp, it would've been worse.

Big thanks to Trota, Yeray, Gil and everyone at the training session for giving a chance to see what it's really like to train with the best and get beat down by the best. I'm still feeling the love and hurt.

PS: While you're at in on the net, peep over to Premiere's website. My partner is letting go of the black on white 'REAL' design go for $11! CLICK HERE to get to Premiere. Okay, now check the video.

SUP Calendar Love

Thanks to Kristin at SUPconnect.com for choosing a couple of images for the 2012 SUP Race Calendar. I can't thank you enough. Get yours at www.supventure.com.

I hope this will help me get some SUPer's for my Northern Baja SUP trips: www.SUPmex.com. Either way, I'm stoked.

Oh yeah... they used a photo of my wife that I took in Baja. I got myself a calendar girl :) Check it:
